Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates when he was just a boy. Riddled with childhood ailments from Asthma, Influenza, Rickets and other haunting problems, Joseph devised a series of exercises by studying various forms of movement. He combined Yoga, Gymnastics, Boxing, Wrestling, Swimming and Dance. Pilates later used his tools and methodology to rehab wounded soldiers during the war. By attaching pulleys to the cots in the barracks he utilized resistance to strengthen the body and its form. Pilates was later recognized for his work in the rehab field and George Balanchine brought his craft to the dancers of the American Ballet Theatre and since then Pilates has swept the nation. Now widely used in hospitals and rehab, from spinal injuries to blown out knees, from migraines to tummy aches, from growing pains to pregnancy Pilates has become a form widely recognized at optimal health today.

two girlsSince Pilates was the only form of exercise ever created by a child for children, it was his lifelong goal to see his methods used in schools worldwide. Today the "Pilates In Schools Initiative" has been passed and more and more health and fitness programs are being developed from obesity to growing pains, from body image, fighting bulimia and anorexia, to sports coaching and training from skaters, dancers, soccer players, football, golf, baseball and swim teams across the board.

While working as a member of UCLA Pediatric Pains Program I worked on a research grant with children who have gone from doctor to doctor and surgery to surgery and have seen no recovery. These children then were taken off drugs and kept away from surgery and were given to me to do Pilates and the results were astounding. Child after child felt better, stronger and pain free, I have now taken this high and the amazing results and have geared my practice towards Pilates For Kids. My machines are designed for their bodies and the rooms are colorful, fun and inviting to every child and teen that walks thru the door. kids_twin
